ENVIRONMENTAL LAW AND LAND USE

Businesses and local governments must comply with a myriad of federal and state environmental regulations that apply to their operations. Local governments must also comply with often conflicting state statutes and administrative regulations when developing their own land use comprehensive plans and codes. Businesses must meet the requirements of those comprehensive plans and land use codes when seeking to develop or expand their operations. The Environmental and Land Use Practice Group of Harrang Long Gary Rudnick P.C. assists businesses and local governments in these areas.

Our attorneys counsel both private and public clients in such areas as environmental permitting (such as wetlands permits and NPDES permits for stormwater and waste water discharges), brownfields redevelopment and hazardous waste law. Our attorneys also assist local governments in developing their own environmental regulations in such areas as natural resource protection (for example, riparian areas and trees), industrial pretreatment, erosion control and hazardous substances.

In addition to an expertise in federal and state environmental law, our attorneys have a great deal of experience and expertise assisting local governments and businesses with land use regulations. We assist local governments in their compliance with the requirements of state statutes, statewide planning goals and administrative regulations by drafting land use codes and comprehensive plans. Where necessary, the group's attorneys represent those governments in the enforcement or defense of their land use codes and comprehensive plan provisions. In cities and counties where the attorneys do not represent the local governments, our attorneys assist businesses in pursuing development permits.

Our land use and environmental attorneys advise both public and private clients. Some of the cities that our attorneys advise regarding land use and environmental issues include Eugene, Roseburg, Florence, Dunes City and Sutherlin. We also serve as general counsel to the Lane Regional Air Pollution Authority, and as special counsel to a number of other governmental entities. Our attorneys also advise a number of businesses operating in Oregon.
