Before joining the firm, Bill Gary and Jim Mountain each served as the state’s Solicitor General, responsible for managing all of the appeals for the State of Oregon. Jens Schmidt and Jerry Lidz came out of the Appellate Division of the Oregon Department of Justice, where Jerry served as Chief Civil Attorney for five years. Our appellate lawyers have handled more than 2,900 appeals before state and federal appellate courts. We have successfully handled appeals involving a wide range of matters – from “bet the company” business disputes, to constitutional and public policy issues, to appeals from decisions of the tax courts and administrative agencies. We handle appeals involving professional malpractice, mass torts and products liability cases, and land use. Our team has extensive experience in formulating legal strategies, developing arguments that lead to favorable outcomes, and presenting those arguments in a clear and compelling manner.
