John A. Riherd handles matters involving health law, insurance law, regulatory affairs, and general business law. John has extensive experience with all types of health care plans, including health insurers, HMOs, third party administrators, and welfare benefit trusts. He has over 35 years experience in healthcare law, operations, and management. He was formerly the Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Officer for The Regence Group, the largest health care insurer headquartered in the Pacific Northwest. He has also served as General Counsel for other health plans. John founded Recovery Opportunities Incorporated, a company specializing in helping health insurers save money by improving their processing and recovery of third party liability claims.
John is an active member of the Oregon, Washington and Idaho State bars, and has served in a variety of bar section roles. He has been a member of numerous professional organizations including American Health Lawyers Association and American Bar Association.
John is a member of the Commercial Panel of the American Arbitration Association. He serves on the Health Policy Committee for the Oregon Business Association, on the Board of Trustees at Acumentra, and on the Board of Directors for the Neighborhood Health Center, which operates clinics in the Portland metro area serving the needs of low income people.
John received a J.D. With Distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law. He also received a M.A. in Religious Studies from Gonzaga University and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Iowa. He has been an adjunct professor in the graduate studies in education program at Whitworth University.
