James P. Harrang, a founder of the firm in 1957, (then known as Johnson, Johnson & Harrang), has assisted with the business management of the practice since its inception.  He served as Chairman of the Board up until his retirement (December 31, 2007). He helped the firm grow from a small practice representing individual clients and small businesses to a practice that includes all phases of business and corporate law, civil and complex civil litigation, public law and government affairs, employment and labor law, environmental and land use law and appellate work in the highest courts.

Jim specialized in general business practice for a variety of business clients; business and property transactions and operations, and estate and trust planning.

Education

A native Oregonian, Jim served in the 10th Mountain Division, U.S. Army, in World War II, before graduating from the University of Oregon in 1948 with a BS in Philosophy and from University of Oregon Law School in 1951. Soon after, he began his association with H. V. Johnson, and his sons, Harold V. Johnson and Arthur C. Johnson, and modified their existing practice to form Johnson, Johnson & Harrang on July 1, 1957.
